π€ Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Β
To ensure your tattoo heals clean, vibrant, and smooth, follow these aftercare steps based on the covering method your artist used:
Β
πΉ STEP 1: FIRST NIGHT INSTRUCTIONS
Β
β€ If your tattoo is not bandaged:
β’ Avoid touching it or letting others touch it.
β’ Follow cleaning instructions within 2β3 hours of leaving the studio.
β€ If your tattoo is covered with a non-adhesive bandage (plastic wrap or pad):
β’ Leave the wrap on for 2β6 hours (or overnight if advised).
β’ Wash your hands, then gently remove the bandage.
β’ Proceed to cleaning instructions below.
β€ If your tattoo is covered with a specialty bandage (Saniderm, 2nd Skin, Recovery Derm, etc.):
β’ Leave Saniderm on for 3β7 days (as directed by your artist).
β’ If fluid starts to leak or the bandage starts to peel off, remove it early.
β’ To remove: Do so in the shower using warm water. Gently peel it off slowly in the direction of hair growth. Try and slowly stretch the bandage, pulling flat against your skin. DO NOT peel away from the skin like a bandaid!
Β
πΉ STEP 2: WASHING YOUR TATTOO
Β
β’ Wash your hands first.
β’ Gently cleanse your tattoo using Mad Rabbit Foaming Tattoo Wash or any unscented soap:
βββ’ Apply 1β2 pumps directly to the tattoo.
βββ’ Use your fingertips to lather gently β do not scrub.
βββ’ Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
β’ Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let air dry. Avoid cloth towels.
π Do this 3β4 times a day during the healing process (especially after sweating or getting dirty).
Β
πΉ STEP 3: APPLYING AFTERCARE PRODUCT
Β
β’ Once fully dry, apply a thin layer of Mad Rabbit Soothing Gel or any unscented WATER BASED lotion (Lubriderm, CeraVe, etc.)
β’ Use just enough to lightly coat the tattoo β do not over-apply or suffocate it.
β’ Reapply after each wash or anytime the tattoo feels dry or tight.
Β
β³οΈ SPECIAL NOTES BY BANDAGE TYPE:
Β
βͺοΈ If You Used a Temporary Bandage or No Bandage:
β’ The first 3β5 days are critical:
βββ’ Keep the area clean and moisturized.
βββ’ Avoid soaking (no baths, pools, hot tubs).
βββ’ Avoid excessive sun exposure.
βͺοΈ If You Used Saniderm:
β’ After removing Saniderm, follow Steps 2 and 3 above.
β’ Continue washing and applying Mad Rabbit Soothing Gel for 7β14 days, or until fully healed.
Β
π π«Β Not Using Mad Rabbit?
Β
If you donβt have Mad Rabbit products on hand, use gentle, fragrance-free alternatives:
β Recommended Wash Alternatives:
β’ Dial Gold (liquid antibacterial soap)
β’ Dr. Bronnerβs Baby Unscented
β’ H2Ocean Blue Green Foam Soap
β’ Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser (if very sensitive skin)
β Recommended Moisturizers:
β’ Lubriderm (unscented)
β’ CeraVe (unscented)
β’ Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion (unscented)
β’ Hustle Butter Deluxe
β’ H2Ocean Ocean Care
β οΈ Avoid petroleum-based products (like Aquaphor, Vaseline, or A+D Ointment) β these can clog pores, suffocate your tattoo, trap bacteria, and lead to poor healing, dull ink, or infection.
Stick with breathable, non-petroleum-based aftercare whenever possible.
Β
π THINGS TO AVOID:
Β
β’ Do NOT pick, scratch, or peel scabs or flaking skin.
β’ Do NOT use petroleum-based products.Β
β’ Avoid tight clothing that rubs on the tattoo.
β’ Avoid direct sun exposure β use SPF once fully healed.
Β
β±οΈ HEALING TIMELINE OVERVIEW:
Β
β’ Days 1β3: Swelling/redness normal. Wash and use soothing gel 3β4x/day.
β’ Days 4β7: Peeling and itching begin. Donβt scratch!
β’ Days 8β14: Skin looks dull or flaky. Keep moisturizing.
β’ 2β4 weeks: Fully healed! Apply SPF to protect long-term.
β
